He was raised in the shadow of an automobile
and he knows what he knows, but not what he feels.
And he knows what he saw, and he's pretty sure some of it was real.

In the Midwest kids get high and then they get sober.
In the Midwest kids feel winter even when the winter's over,
and the winter's never over.
What can you do in a town without a view,
where the streetlights don't come on because they're all broken?
And what can you say to a boy with such an innocent face,
and a car with a tank that's full and a door that's open?
So maybe they make it and maybe they don't.
I could tell you a story, but maybe I won't.
Suffice it to say its a long way from here to the coast,
and maybe they make it and maybe they don't.
And in the Midwest kids feel old and then they get older.
In the Midwest we feel winter even when the winter's over...
